Game Idea Questionnaire

The first step to making a game is figuring out and writing down the idea. Use these questions to help you develop your idea. These can be for your own idea, or you can practice by answering the questions for an existing game. Some questions might not apply to your specific idea.

3. What platform do you want to release the game on (PC, Android, iPhone, Playstation, etc)?

Gameplay Information

1. What are the rules of the game?

2. What are the victory/losing conditions of the game? For example, a victory condition might be that on each level, a player must collect 5 gems, and there are 10 levels that the player must pass to win the game. Losing conditions might include running out of time on a level, losing all health, etc.

3. What are the controls in the game?

4. What are the possible actions a player can take in the game?

5. Are there any physics requirements for the game, such as gravity, friction, particle effects, collision detection?

6. Is there scoring or any other economy in the game? How does it work?

7. Does the game get more difficult as the player progresses, and how?

8. Are there any additional difficulty settings?

9. Are there any ways to save progress? Checkpoints? Passwords?

10. Is there combat in the game, and how does it work?

Game World

1. Describe the main characters and any other supporting characters.

2. Describe the different levels/worlds.

3. Does the game have any story?

4. What kind of setting is the game in?

Interface and Look/Feel

1. Does the game have a specific visual style or look?

2. What sort of camera angle/view does the game have?

3. What different screens are available (for example, start menu, options screen, overworld map, etc)?

4. How is information presented to the player (HUD, on-screen text, audio clues, etc)?

5. What kind of audio/music is in the game?

6. Is there a help system to assist the player?
